Backstab fishing and immense lag is pretty much Dark Souls PvP in a nutshell, also the "zone" for landing backstabs are very generous in this game. It's the PvP experience for this game basically, sadly. If you want the NPC invasion you could probably go offline just for that. If it becomes too unbearable.

I sneak by the knight by going up on the ledge and dropping down behind him. But I stand right behind him using spook and still don't get a backstab. Make sure you have your shield lowered when you attempt a backstab. Shield down, and sometimes it seems to help to let go of the analogue stick right before hitting the button to backstab. Not really, it is still the same. Just get within a certain angle of the enemy's back and press R1.
From the Burg: Run to the tower with Havel at the bottom. Right at the bottom where you fight him there should be a door, which you open with the Master Key OR the Watchtower Basement Key. Exit the door and you should see a cliff to your immediate left. Keep to the edge and keep left.
Simply burst 3 of the Curse-Rotted Greatwood's disgusting egg-sacks to initiate phase 2, where the stone floor gives way and both the player as well as the Greatwood fall into the dank pit used by
Backs have quite a big window. You can be slightly to their side and still backstab. Unlocked makes positioning easier. Latency also plays a part. You need to press R1 at their back, but if they stay in place (regardless of direction) you'll still pull them into a backstab. This makes 'face stabbing' a thing.
Simply wait for an opportunity, get into position, and hit R1 while behind an enemy to stab them in the back and inflict a massive amount of damage. Lining up the backstab animation can be a little finicky, though. In general, the most reliable position is to have the player characterās right hand (or the weapon-baring hand) line up with the If the feet are staggered, put yourself behind the heel of the back foot. If the feet are square, then center yourself between the legs. Okay, I'll try that. Nope, no shield. Here 's a nice video-guide on how to back-stab and avoid being back-stabbed in PvP. For this reason I thought parrying backstabs was impossible because if you were in range for a parry, you were in range for a backstab.
